NEWS FROM FONATA

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The nature, size and extent of various nutritional problems and associated diseases are so immense in Tanzania that strong collaboration is needed to address them.

At the national level there are many institutions whose policies and programmes have a direct or indirect impact on food and nutrition. There are also a number of individuals who are trained and are directly or indirectly working in the food and nutrition sector.

However, these institutions and persons do not have a formal forum of exchange of ideas, and experience. The formation of the Food and Nutrition Association of Tanzania (FONATA) was therefore necessary to create such a forum. FONATA is voluntary, private, non-political, non-sectarian and non-profit making association established and registered in May 1993.
