ANNUAL GENERAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 2012/2013

secretary treasure ladies and gentlemen
good afternoon
Dear members
I’m standing here before you with accordance to TAFONUSA constitutions of 1998
PART IIIA section 2(c) which requires the chairperson of the association to
present annual report of the association activities to the general assembly
Dear members the reports has the followings parties
I. Background information of the associations.
II.Strategies during our leadership term.
III.Successs during our leadership
IV.Challenges/Failure.

1.BACKGROUND
INFORMATION OF THE ASSOCIATION
Dear
members TAFONUSA Is the association comprises the following
degree programme namely food science and technology Human nutrition, and family
consumer studies. But but previous it was comprised only two degree programme
which were Home economic and human nutrition and food science and technology.
Tafonusa was established 1987 with idea
from Dr R.Wigenge andMr Guava by then
Bsc.food science and technology at Sokoine University of Agriculture(SUA).Currentry
Dr Wigenge is the director of food department at Tanzania Food and Drug
Authority(TFDA).Mr Guava is the Agricultural officer in Mara region and master
holder.
Dear
members TAFONUSA was formed to meet the following objectiveS
as stipulated in TAFONUSA constitution of 1998 PART IA Section(1)
Ø To
bring and unite food nutrition and family consumer students.
Ø To
protect and promote the interest of students under the department of food
science.
Ø To
represents Tafonusa on the national
regional and international basis.
Ø To
promote awareness of people on the crucial role played by food in the survival
of man and maintenance of human health.
Ø To
participate in various projects conferences and seminar related to food and and
nutrition so as to be currently updated functioning
Ø To
provide nutrition education in the society by using various ways such as radio magazine and television.
2.STRATEGIES
DURING OUR LEADERSHIP
Dear members after
being elected to be the leader we called the executive meeting to set
strategies that will be implemented during our leadership on 25:05:2012 at
SUASA CRUB the following strategies were set

Ø To
prepare Tafonusa almanac that will guide
the daily activities of TAFONUSA.
Ø To
amends the constitution to meet the demand of the people.
Ø To
renewal our membership to FONATA, Which was ceases due failure o fees payment
and less parcipations.
Ø Students
should be incorporated in the research available in the departments through
TAFONUSA.
Ø To
provide seminar in nutrition issues in the targeted group like villagers
Secondary and primary students in order to advertise potentials of our course
and reduce the problems of Malnutrition.
Ø To
find TAFONUSA sponsorship that will be sponsoring various Tafonusa activities
such as SPORT games.
Ø To
promote cooperation between students and staff of department of food science
and technology.
Ø To
find sponsorship for the students who and getting loan from the government and
those who wish to continue with further studies.
Ø To
buy camera and and flash for information secretary for working efficiently.
Ø To
conducts nutrition nutrition assessment to the people surrounding. To create
the association emblem that will be identification of the association.
Ø To
have mission and vision that will act as the driving force of the associations.
Ø To
get air time in various media based in Morogoro so that to provide nutrition.
Ø To
help students especially first year in field searching .
Ø To
bring cooperation between TAFONUSA members and department staff.
3.ACHIEVEMENTS
Dear members
based on our strategies we have achieved
74% of what we have planned the followings are the achievement in our leadership
some them Im going to exlain them in detail
Ø The
cooperation between TAFONUSA and
department staff is well expressed.this is evidenced in their
contribution during TAFONUSA PARTY.
Ø Tafonusa
has made events such welcome first year, sport and game to bring together members that was visted by
journalist from SUA TV
Ø Keeping
information, we have established good system for keeping information in both
soft copy and hard copy.
Ø We
have managed to prepare almanac that guide the association activities.
Ø Creation
of good link with the outside members .

going to explain them in detail as follo as
3.2. Information and communication section.
Dear members, during our leadership
term we have managed to improve communication within the association and outside .This can be proved by TAFONUSA
blog sport previously there about 2 page with 100 visitor per day due to
improvement and constantly update in our blog sport, our blog sport is
dramatically gaining popularity compared
to other association, Currently we have average of 3500 users per day . Now are
striving to to get maximum number of 10,000/= per day so that our blog could
sponsored by various companies like Vodacom and Tigo, some we have talked with
them and gave that condition.I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the information and communication committee especially the chairperson of this
committee Mr BEDA MWINUKA FST 3 year for good work that has been done keep it
up and advising members to make effectively in order to get the required
desired numbers that would enable us to get sponsorship.
FACE
BOOK ACCOUNT, Dear members during our leadership we have succeeded to
have the wall on face book account, this provide link between currently and outgoing
member, providing information to all members students and outgoing members. I
would like to take this opportunity to advise you to join this wall especially
outgoing so that to keep in contact with the associations, as now days social
network like face book are simple ways of communication.
3.3 SUA
TV.
Dear
members during our leadership we have managed to get
airtime from SUA TV which help us to provide education based the field of food , nutrition and family life ,we
advising you to make extensively use of it so that the society can appreciate
potentiality of the course under the department of food science and technology.
Apart from
SUA we requested other media to offers us air time like Planet,Abood media and
top radio.Abood was ready to offers us but we feared to make strong follow up
due to poor response to SUA TV.
3.4.
CONSTITUTION AMENDMENT OF 1998
Dear member, during our term leadership we managed
to amends our constitutions in order to meet the long time desire of the
members,what is waited is to be proved by the general assembly soon today Humbly we are requesting you to approval so
that it can become under operation from today. TAFONUSA constitution was
launched in 1998 ,this will the first
remarkable amendment to be made.
3.5 SPORT AND GAME/GET-TOGETHER PARTY
Dear
members, during get-together party we managed to organizes successfully sport and
game Bonanza at main campus for the
first time the bonanza was visited by
various media like SUA TV and other media like top radio.Currentry we are
planning to initiate TAFONUSA challenge cup that will be sponsored by the
association as the one way of handling over our term leadership.
3.6.RENEWAL THE MEMBERHIP AT FONATA
Dear
members since as stated early that TAFONUSA constitution is
affiliates of Sokoine University of Agriculture Students Organization(SUASO) ,Food
and Nutrition Association of Tanzania but our membership ceases in 2007 due to failure of paying annual
fees and attending meeting.
During our leadership we have managed to renewal our
membership in FONATA after making follow up to them for long time they agreed
by condition that we have to start
paying our subscription fees next year and they agreed to cancel our previous debt,
It was not an easy task to do this but
due to strong and committed leadership we managed to this.
Being affiliates of FONATA has a lot of advantages
like accessing grants and being involved in various research that are conducted
under this associations accessing sponsorship offered every after three year or
any time that are available.
3.7.DECENTRALIZTTION
OF POWER
Dear
members In order to make full participation of the members
in association activities we decided to make committees that will be assisting
us in implementing various activities we formed about ten committee. would like
to take this opportunity to thank these committee for their contribution toward
the growth of our association.
3.8.
STRATEGIES THAT WE HAVE IMPLEMENTED BUT WAITING FOR RESULTS
Dear members members the following are the
strategies that we have done but we are waiting for reply
3.8.1.
SEARCHING SPONSORSHIP
Dear members, we have tried on our level best to write letter in various companies
asking sponsorship for the student who
are not loan beneficiaries, and we have tried to make strong follow up to them,
but what they promising us is to keep following, we failed to up follow due financial crisis as will be
presented by treasure. For this issue we are advising the coming leadership to
continue making without being follow without give up and members to supports
them by paying fees now we could continue making follow up but our term
leadership is very limited to do this.
3.8.2.FIELD
PRACTICAL TRAINING FOR FITRST YEAR
Dear members its known first year in our department
are allocated to field practical training,but tried to ask chance in various
company especially in Dar-es-salaam what we are waiting is conformation letter
for them let us pray together so that we can get chances.
3.8.3.JOINING
WITH OTHER PROFESSIONAL ASSOCITIONS
Dear members during our leadership we have other
profession association such as Tanzania Institute of food Science and
Technology (TFT) Tanzania Food and Nutrition centre(TFNC), we have already
requested to join with them one will increase there will be possibility of of
getting grants from.The coming new leadership should make follow for this
3.8.4.REASONS
FOR FAILURE OF IMPLEMENTATION OF STRATEGIES
DEAR members some of the activities were not
implemented as it was planned main
reasons for this is interference between university and TAFONUSA time table
,this make a lot of strategies remains dormant especially those need travelling
out of the university .Another reason is low response from the members
especially in paying membership fees that run the daily activities of the
association

CHALLENGES
Dear
members apart from achieved the association faced challenges as follow as
Ø Poor
participation of the members in various association activities like sport and
games.
Ø Low
responses of members in paying annualn
fees this make our association to be i financial crisis as will be reported by
treasure.
Ø Poor
response of the members in presenting SUA TV.
Ø Some
members they feel that they are not part of the association and feel that the
association is dominated by one course which is not true.
Ø Failure
of fulfilling promises of some members, during get-together party some promised
to give a certain amount of money but they failed to so without strong reasons.
Ø Interference from the university time table.
5.THANK
GIVING/CONCLUSION
Dear
member I would to take this opportunity to thank all
members for your maximum cooperation my fellow leaders, head of department and
TAFONUSA matron for advice and cooperation and other staff members from the
department of food science and technology for their contributions towards
growth and development of our association.
Personally I would to thanks the former speaker for
of USRC for his help all committee for
their contributions and Crs, lastly I would to send special thanks to my
expected wife Register ,Shayo FST y3 for her encouragement when I was preparing
this report.

members, they some people who always become happy when people are disorganized humbly
I’m requesting don’t give chances these
kind of people TAFONUSA is for student under the department of food science and
technology all students have legal status of being members,ALBERT ENSTERN in
1898 said that ‘’Knowledge forever will cover the ignorance, it is too
shame to allow ignorance to cover the
knowledge.
Dear
members all these activities mentioned above waiting for
the implementation it needs maximum cooperation from you we as the leader we
cannot succeed alone . We are the leader because you have voted us to be the
leader so without full cooperation all this strategies will remain in the
documents,Hopely you going to cooperate with us in appositively way.
Lastly but
one we are remanding you that soon we are going to have SUASO government
election and TAFONUSA strongly we
requesting to partipate full by talking the contesting forms this would help to
protect the interest of the association and departments
Dear
members I would like to end by making quotation one of our
elder statement I’m here because we are,All these have achieved because of your maximum cooperation,
strong patriotisms and volunteer and strong commitment from,we beg you to
continue with this behaviour.
